SESSION II: Surasa Event
On 18 May 2024, a workshop was organised in the schools auditorium, aiming to discuss the methodologies for improving students’ engagement in the classrooms. The session was conducted by Mr Manish Pandey, a prominent coach and mentor in the realms of education, working with Suraasa, wherein he explained the need of up-skilling and extensive research for the teachers, to keep up with the pace of education domain that has been transforming unstoppably. He explained the importance of an emotional connection between a student and a teacher in the contemporary era and how students’ needs should be catered in the classrooms. An agreement was formed on the opinion that with rapid growth of technology, wonders like Al and ChatGPT have enabled children to access the information beforehand, making them aware and augmenting their curiosity to another level. He emphasised how the role of research has become pivotal in the education sector as knowledge alone cannot satiate students’ desire to know beyond their reach.
Moreover, he talked about the need to tackle challenges, like, stress and anxiety, poor parental involvement, assessment pressure, awareness about stress management, etc. The discussion helped everyone to share their ideas about the mentioned challenges. Also, Mr Pandey, helped the teachers to understand difference between teaching techniques and teaching strategies which further brought upon the perspective that ‘teaching strategies’ are the need of time and teachers must invent or reinvent, strategies that would support holistic growth of the children. Overall, it was a session, full of new learnings and building fresh perspectives.
